How to restore a removed Virtual Machine from VMware Workstation

If you are reading this article, I believe you would have mistakenly removed a Virtual Machine (VM) from your VMware workstation while trying to delete the VM completely from your disk. If you have removed a VM from VMware workstation mistakenly while trying to delete the VM, you don’t have to panic as the VM can be easily recovered.

Please note that when you remove a VM from VMware station, it doesn’t delete the VM from your disk. Hence, no disk space is freed in the process.

To restore a mistakenly removed virtual machine VM in VMware workstation, follow the steps below:

Step 1: Navigate to the folder where the VM vmdk files were saved. Go to File > Open. Check here for how to locate where VMs Virtual Disk files (vmdk files) are stored via VMware Workstation.

Step 2: Select the VM from the list and click Open.

The VM will now be restored. You can go a step further to move the VM to the desired folder.
