How to Delete a Virtual Machine (VM) in VMware Workstation

I have just created a VM in my VMware Workstation which I don’t want any more and will like to delete the VM entirely from the disk. Here is a quick step on how to delete a Virtual Machine (VM) in VMware Workstation 11.

Step 1: On the left pane (expand My Computer), select the VM that needs to be deleted, right click on the VM, go to Manage > Delete from Disk.

Step 2: You will get the prompt below asking you to confirm action, click Yes, and the files will be deleted completely.

Please note that once you delete the virtual machine files from the disk, it cannot be recovered or reversed.

Check the VM’s directory to make sure that the vmdk files have been completely deleted. To locate the default location for your VM’s virtual disk file, go to Edit > Preferences. Delete any remaining vmdk file for the VM in question.

If this VM has been created as a template, you won’t be able to delete the VM following the steps above. Check this page on how to delete a VM Template in VMware Workstation 11.
